How Fantasy Cricket Points Are Calculated

Fantasy cricket platforms like Dream11 and My11Circle award points based on a player’s real-world performance across three dimensions: batting, bowling, and fielding. Understanding the exact scoring rules is the difference between picking the highest-owned obvious choice and finding the hidden differential that wins you a grand league.

Batting Points (T20)

  • Each run scored: +1 pt
  • Each boundary (4): +1 bonus pt
  • Each six (6): +2 bonus pts
  • Half-century (50–99): +8 pts
  • Century (100+): +16 pts
  • Duck (dismissed for 0): −2 pts
  • Strike rate bonus/penalty (min 10 balls): SR ≥ 170 = +6; SR > 150 = +4; SR ≥ 130 = +2; SR < 70 = −6; SR ≤ 100 = −4

Bowling Points (T20)

  • Each wicket: +25 pts
  • LBW or Bowled dismissal bonus: +8 pts
  • 3-wicket haul: +4 pts; 4-wicket haul: +8 pts; 5-wicket haul: +16 pts
  • Maiden over: +4 pts each
  • Economy rate bonus/penalty (min 2 overs): ER < 5 = +6; ER < 6 = +4; ER < 7 = +2; ER ≥ 10 = −2; ER ≥ 11 = −4; ER ≥ 12 = −6

Fielding Points

  • Catch: +8 pts (+4 bonus if 3 or more catches)
  • Stumping: +12 pts
  • Direct run-out: +12 pts
  • Run-out assist: +6 pts

Captain and Vice-Captain Multipliers

Selecting a player as captain doubles their total points. Vice-captain multiplies by 1.5. With a strong performance of 60 base points, a captain earns 120 — making the captain pick worth more than picking the rest of the team correctly.

Strategy Tip: The Hidden Scorer Rule

Many fantasy players focus only on runs and wickets. The biggest edges come from strike rate and economy bonuses. A bowler who takes 2 wickets at an economy of 4.8 earns 50 + 6 = 56 pts — nearly as much as a 3-wicket haul. A batter scoring 45 at SR 175 earns 45 + 6 = 51 pts, beating many 50-run scorers on slower pitches.

Frequently Asked Questions

What scoring system does this calculator use? +

This calculator uses the standard Dream11 and My11Circle T20 scoring rules, which are consistent across most major fantasy cricket platforms. Scoring includes base points for runs and wickets, plus bonuses for milestones (50s, 100s, 5-wicket hauls), strike rate, economy rate, and fielding contributions.

How is the strike rate bonus calculated? +

The batting strike rate bonus applies when a batter faces 10 or more balls. SR ≥ 170 earns +6, SR > 150 earns +4, SR ≥ 130 earns +2. Negative bonuses apply for slow batting — SR < 70 gives -6, SR ≤ 100 gives -4, SR < 130 gives -2. This is why a batter who scores 30 from 40 balls can end up with fewer fantasy points than their run tally suggests.

Do economy rate bonuses apply to part-overs? +

Economy rate bonuses require a minimum of 2 full overs bowled. A bowler who bowls 1.4 overs doesn't qualify for economy bonuses or penalties. Enter overs as a decimal (e.g. 3.4 for 3 overs and 4 balls).

Why is the Captain multiplier so important in fantasy cricket? +

The captain's points are doubled, making the captain pick the single biggest decision in any fantasy team. A player who scores 60 base points earns 120 as captain — that 60-point swing can easily be the difference between winning and losing a grand league. This is why IPL captaincy goes to players with the highest floor, not just the highest ceiling.

Is this calculator suitable for ODI and Test fantasy scoring? +

The base points (runs, wickets, fielding) are broadly similar across formats, but ODI and Test scoring have different milestone bonuses and no strike rate penalties. For ODI, a 100 earns +4 (not 16), and economy bonuses apply over a minimum of 5 overs. This calculator is optimised for T20 and IPL fantasy.

How do I use this to compare captain and vice-captain options? +

Enter a player's expected performance stats, note the base total, then select Captain to see the 2× points, or Vice-Captain for 1.5×. Compare multiple players by running the calculator for each. The player with the highest expected base total usually makes the best captain, but a differential pick (less-owned but high ceiling) can win grand leagues.
